Is it OK to Leave a LiFePO4 Battery on the Charger?
LiFePO4 batteries are a type of lithium-ion battery that has gained significant attention. They offer several advantages such as high energy density, long lifespan, and low self-discharge rate. However, when it comes to the duration of charging, there are some considerations to keep in mind.
What is a LiFePO4 Battery?
A LiFePO4 battery is a type of lithium-ion battery that uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) as the positive electrode material. Compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, LiFePO4 batteries offer higher safety, longer lifespan, and more stable performance.
Charging Principles of LiFePO4 Batteries
LiFePO4 batteries charge by moving lithium ions from the negative electrode to the positive electrode. During the charging process, lithium ions are extracted from the positive electrode material (LiFePO4), conducted through the electrolyte to the negative electrode material, while electrons flow from the negative electrode to the positive electrode, completing the charging process.
Can a LiFePO4 Battery Be Left on the Charger for a Long Time?
Based on the characteristics of lithium iron phosphate batteries, it is safe to leave them on the charger for an extended period. LiFePO4 batteries have high safety standards and are not prone to overcharging or over-discharging, which means they won't negatively impact the battery's lifespan or performance. However, to ensure optimal performance and lifespan, it is recommended to unplug the charger once the battery is fully charged.
How to Properly Use and Charge LiFePO4 Batteries?
Use a compatible charger
Select a charger that is specifically designed for LiFePO4 batteries to ensure the charging current and voltage meet the battery's requirements.
Avoid overcharging and over-discharging
Try to avoid charging or discharging lithium iron phosphate batteries to their extreme limits to prolong their lifespan.
Avoid high-temperature environments
LiFePO4 batteries are sensitive to high temperatures, so it is important to avoid exposing them to excessive heat to prevent performance degradation.
Regularly charge the battery
Even if not in use, it is recommended to periodically charge LiFePO4 batteries to maintain their activity and performance.
Can a LiFePO4 Battery Be Left on the Charger for a Long Time?
Based on the characteristics and charging principles of LiFePO4 batteries, it can be concluded that LiFePO4 batteries can be left on the charger for a long time without negatively affecting their lifespan or performance. However, to ensure optimal performance and lifespan, it is recommended to unplug the charger once the battery is fully charged.
In summary, it is generally safe to leave a LiFePO4 battery on the charger for an extended period. However, we still recommend removing the battery from the charger promptly once it is fully charged to protect its lifespan and safety.

Your scooter likely has a lithium-ion battery which definitely does not like to be constantly charged when not in use, in fact for extended lifespan it is recommended to not charge it above 80% of total capacity and not discharge below around 10%.
My scooter is not 1 year old and the battery went after 3 months old they put another one in 2 months ago and left it on charge went out this morning to go to the shops and it is dead again. What do you advise.
